When you're choosing your participation stage, you have the option to move down to a lower level, but going up a level isn't possible. So, if you find the level you initially picked too challenging, you can switch to a lower one, and that's the medal you'll earn.
For example, if you initially sign up for the gold level but later switch to silver or bronze, your final medal will be based on the level you end up on by the last day. Just remember, if you don't complete all three days, you won't receive a medal.
